MVP Update: Time for a Tune-up

September 20, 2024 By Chris Norfolk

MVP remains at the core of mountain biking in Fredericton. We have a chance to get it put back into amazing shape for some great fall riding. We need volunteer help – your help!

The Good News

We were contacted by the landowner of the Flight Deck area yesterday and told that we are now welcome to enjoy the trails again. This is fantastic news from a landowner who has been very generous to the club. We know that the temporary closure really hurt this summer but it’s now finally over.

This weekend club execs will head in and start removing the trail barriers and the closed signs. We’ll be doing a safety inspection on all Flight Deck trails since it’s been some time since we’ve had eyes on them and there could be downed trees or other hazards. Not all trails will open immediately. If there are still barriers in place please continue to respect them. In particular, we are not sure about V-Fib. The harvesting took place very close to that trail and it may have been impacted directly. We’ll wait and see how it looks during inspection and we’ll make a plan from there.

What you can do to help us open everything quickly is pitch in. We expect everything in the Flight Deck area will need to be trimmed back with loppers and line trimmers to re-establish lines of sight. We also expect that everything needs a good raking for loose rock that’s accumulated on the trail surface. These are really easy jobs that don’t take any special trail building knowledge. Any rider can help and you can do it on whatever time works for you. Just let us know what you plan to take on so that we can try and send volunteers to the areas they are needed most. While we are on topic – the MVP beginner zone needs the same kind of love so we are looking for Bunkerama, Wright of Way, Velocity, and La Woodstock to also get some attention.

The Other Good News

For whatever reason – the beavers seem to have left Bunkerama and the pond is now gone. We think this means we have a great opportunity to get this trail cleaned up and back into shape for fall riding. A good raking and clearing debris should be all that’s needed – but we need people to step forward.

Get Involved and Support the Work

Get in touch with us via email or messenger and let us know you are willing to help. We can supply loppers / rakes / and trimmers and we’d be happy to point you in the right direction. Let’s get MVP into great shape for fall riding! You can also help the club by getting your membership if you haven’t already for 2024! It’s not too late. Membership funds pay for tools, gas, insurance, and other costs we have to keep trails open.

Refresh of the MVP Enduro Zone Complete!

May 17, 2024 By Chris Norfolk

Riders,

At the end of 2 weeks of work, the Enduro zone at MVP is ready for business ahead of the long weekend. Go send!

  • #BlazingDestruction and Pinball have been completely redone. Every inch fixed and buffed. Pinball had major drainage issues addressed.
  • A new connector called #COD (for “Cover of Darkness”) is open which splits from #BlazingDestruction and takes the rider to DNF.
  • Over 20 volunteers contributed 325 hours of work over 10 days! Thank you!
  • Dig-In Trail Building and Design were once again great to work with! Highly recommended to other clubs. Next for them is to head over to Woolastook to address a warranty issue on their trail from last year. Quality!
Max G’s ride-through of the new tuned-up #Blazing Destruction!
Jon N’s partial ride-through of Pinball
#COD

Please ride responsibly. These trail have changed. Even if you consider yourself a strong rider you should inspect all features before attempting to send them!

Again, this project would not have been possible with the support of some incredible and generous local businesses. Thank you to Remosft, Corey Insurance Services, Fredericton Family Chiropractic, and Chamberlain Wealth.

Enjoy… and don’t forget to support all of this fantastic trail work by joining RVC!

MVP Enduro Trails Update

May 10, 2024 By Chris Norfolk

Riders, we’ve got great news… and an important safety heads-up. Read on.

First the good news. This week has seen huge improvements made to #BlazingDestruction. The volunteer turnout to work alongside Dig-In Trail Building and Design has been exactly what this trail needed. Huge thank you to everyone who’s been coming out to rake and shape. There is easily more than 100 hours of volunteer work into this project already and it will continue on next week on other trails. Also huge thanks again to the local businesses that have sponsored this work: Remsoft, Fredericton Family Chiropractic, Corey Insurance, and Chamberlain Wealth.

#BlazingDestruction

We will start to open up certain enduro trails this weekend. Follow our social for updates and pay attention to trails taped closed.

Now the safety news.

Later on this summer the landowner who’s given us generous access to the Flight Deck area will be having some of his timber harvested. The area is generally behind the enduro zone trails and we don’t expect any of our singletrack to be impacted. However, for about 6-8 weeks we could see some heavy traffic on the road that goes through the middle of this area. “Fern Gulley Road” has already been brushed out and it will start to be upgraded in advance of the harvesting and trucking that will occur later on. This is obviously a safety concern for us because riders are not accustomed to any traffic at the bottom of trails like V-Fib, Monkey Business, Slash, and Blazing.

Fern G. Rd.

We are already in touch with the forestry company that will be conducting the operation and we have a good channel of communication. We’ll be developing a safety plan that we’ll share as operations commence. We don’t expect a trail closure… but visibility and caution around intersections will be part of it. Working with landowners to preserve your riding access is part of what RVC does… often unseen.

Be safe. Have fun. Join RVC

Big Refresh of MVP’s Enduro Trails

May 4, 2024 By Chris Norfolk

Riders, next week we are starting a project at MVP and welcoming Dig-In Trail Building and Design back to Fredericton! Dig-In will be working alongside RVC volunteers between May 7th and May 17th to improve drainage, resurface, reshape, beautify, and even build a bit of new trail. We worked with Dig-In at on our Woolastook project and we know they do really nice work!

This area serves as a training ground and introduction to machine build bike park style trails to many riders. The goal is to keep the trails sustainable and fresh. Blazing Destruction, Monkey Business, Pinball Slash n Berm, and Vfib will all see some work (including the flyover bridge). There will some new lines cut so hang on for updates! The team hopes to tackle the drop park as well!

Until this refresh is complete the Flight Deck area will remain closed. We will open trails as soon as we can and we ask that riders stay off any trails marked as closed.

This investment wouldn’t be possible without the generosity of several local businesses. We want to send a huge thank you to Chamberlain Wealth, Corey Insurance, Fredericton Family Chiropractic, and especially to Remsoft! The donation of these companies, as well as the sweat of RVC trail builders, is what is going to make this re-fresh possible. What a community! If you are interested in helping out too just get in touch with us and we’ll connect you with the build team!

Thanks to our project sponsors!

Winterbike Plan 2024 – MVP

January 31, 2024 By Chris Norfolk

Hey riders. By now you’ve seen ‘Super Tundra‘ – the newest addition to our winter grooming fleet. Isn’t she a beauty!

Buying a brand new snow machine off the lot with a warranty is a game changer. Our master volunteer groomer Dan Breau has already reported that it’s changing the way he’ll groom, given its pulling power. Having this machine is going to lower our gas costs, and most importantly it will mean that Dan has to spend far less time maintaining the machine for each hour he spends shaping snow for us. We’re super psyched. We want to send a huge thanks to the City of Fredericton who awarded us a community grant that covered half of the purchase cost which we matched with funds raised from you – our club supporters and members! Thanks so much!

And here’s what we plan on doing with it…

This winter RVC plans to keep 14 km of trial open with the sled. In addition to this we are hoping that the ‘shoe-to-ride’ effort will keep the Greg’s Way loops open – which are an amazing winter ride once you find yourself at the end of the Back 40.

MVP mountain biking trails

Unfortunately, it won’t be an option to groom the flight deck this winter. The landowner is allowing his road to be used to support a nearby logging operation which we understand will start anytime in the next week with frequent trucking expected throughout the month of March. Out of a concern for rider safety and a need to respect the landowner’s arrangements trails from #Blazing Destruction to V-Fib will remain closed until spring. There’s still plenty to ride though!

So, we hope you’re as psyched as we are now that the snow is here and the weather is consistently cold. We hope you love the winter trails and remember to support RVC Winterbike with your 2024 membership!
